Boyd Gaming and FanDuel Group team up to launch a new Stardust Online Casino in Pennsylvania and New Jersey

Just a few days ago, Boyd Gaming and the FanDuel Group announced plans to launch a brand-new online casino in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. While the site will be new, the name will not. The venture will use the iconic gaming brand known as Stardust Casino, a brand owned by Boyd. The Stardust was a casino located in Las Vegas that was acquired by Boyd Gaming and then imploded back in 2007.

Hopeful for an April Launch

Both operators are hopeful that the new Stardust online casinos will launch next month. Of course, this will only occur if approval is secured in both states. FanDuel will rebrand its Betfair Casino in the Garden State to the Stardust name. In Pennsylvania, a brand-new platform will be launched. Players will be able to use one app in both states for mobile gaming, offered on iOS and Android devices.

The proprietary front-end, apps, and player account management system of FanDuel will be used to build the online casino platform. Players of the site in both states can use the Boyd Gaming B Connected player loyalty program to earn points and tier credits while playing online.Read more

Atlantic City sportsbetting tax windfall legislation makes it out of committee

In New Jersey and proposed legislation that would see Atlantic City receive even more of the tax revenues generated by the eastern state’s burgeoning sportsbetting industry has reportedly made it out of committee.

According to a Thursday report from the Associated Press news service, the measure floated by New Jersey State Senator Troy Singleton late last year calls for the proceeds from a 1.25% gross sportsbetting revenue tax currently funding the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority to be exclusively diverted to the coffers of Atlantic City. The Democratic sponsor purportedly detailed that the successful passage of his legislation would see the community of approximately 38,000 people receive about $2 million more every year to help assuage the impacts of a coronavirus-related fall in visitation and a series of restrictive payment in lieu of tax (PILOT) agreements.

Booming business:

New Jersey was one of the first American states to legalize online and land-based sports wagering following the 2018 revocation of the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA). The jurisdiction of almost 9.3 million inhabitant…

Teksas eyaletinin, eyalet kontrolündeki piyangoda kumar oynadığınız sürece kumar oynamanın sorun olmadığına karar vermesinin her zaman ironik olduğunu düşünmüştüm. Sorum her zaman şu olmuştur: “Piyangoda kumar ilk etapta neden yasa dışıydı?”

3 Reasons Trump’s Plan to Privatize the International Space Station Won’t (and Shouldn’t) Happen

Dabbling in real estate and looking for a way to invest hundreds of millions of dollars with virtually no chance of return? Then the International Space Station (ISS) is for you.

Discontinuing funding for space station operations after 2024 and turning the job over to the private sector after that is something the Trump Administration is currently contemplating, the Washington Post reports. The good news is this will surely never happen. The bad news is that the White House is even considering a plan that fails on so many levels.

Here are the three big ones.

Privatizing the Space Station is a fiscal loser

The International Space Station was first proposed in 1984 by then-President Ronald Reagan. Back then it was called the Freedom Space Station, and back then it was supposed to cost just $8 billion ($19 billion in 2017 dollars). Things haven’t worked out quite that way, with $100 billion the generally accepted figure for what the U.S. has spent on the station so far — and many analysts putting the figure closer to $150 billion, once you take support costs into consideration. Just maintaining the completed station costs up to $4 bill…

The U.S. COVID-19 Vaccine Rollout Timeline Is Getting Faster

On Dec. 8, 2020, when then-President Elect Joe Biden promised that his incoming administration would deliver 100 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine to patients’ arms in his first 100 days in office, none of the highly anticipated inoculations were yet authorized. Even with highly promising results from medical trials and months of planning by state and federal authorities for the rollout, it is not a safe bet to hinge grand political ambitions on a cat’s cradle of government bureaucracies.

While the U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued an emergency use authorization for the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine three days later (and another for Moderna’s shot on Dec. 18), the first several weeks of the rollout were ridden with missteps and crossed wires as doses piled up in overstocked long-term care facilities, and in some cases the trash (though there is scant data on the number of wasted treatments). In the 38 days between the first vaccinations on Dec. 14, and when Biden took office on Jan. 20, the federal government had shipped 42 million doses. But less than half—16.5 million shots—were administered. Since then, the pace as picked up considerably, …

Watch Live as the Inspiration4 Crew Launches to Space

Are you ready to go to space? Join TIME and Netflix on Wednesday, September 15 at 7 p.m. ET as we bring you the launch of Inspiration4—the first-ever all-civilian orbital mission—live.

The Inspiration4 crew, including mission commander Jared Issacman, mission pilot and geoscience professor Dr. Sian Proctor, payload specialist and Lockheed Martin aerospace engineer Chris Sembroski, and medical officer and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital physician assistant Hayley Arceneaux, has been training for the mission for months. The team has spent hours upon hours in simulators and classrooms, and now they’re ready for the real deal, launching for three days in orbit aboard a SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft atop a Falcon 9 rocket. Once in space, the crew will spend time communicating with loved ones, students and space fans back home, as well as conducting various experiments. The launch will be historic in more ways than one, as Arceneaux will become the first person with a prosthetic to fly to space. “People who went to space in the past had to be perfect physical specimens,” she recently told TIME, “and that’s not the case anymo…

Amazon to get hearing that could overturn New York union vote

The online retailer has accused the NLRB’s Brooklyn office of appearing to support the union drive and alleged that labor organizers intimidated workers to vote in their favor, claims the union has dismissed. Citing the Brooklyn office’s conduct, Amazon last month secured the case’s transfer to the NLRB’s Phoenix-based region. That office’s director, Cornele Overstreet, said the evidence behind Amazon’s claims “could be grounds for overturning the election,” according to a filing on Friday.

Some 55% of employees who voted from Amazon’s JFK8 warehouse in the borough of Staten Island opted to join the Amazon Labor Union (ALU), which has argued for higher pay and job security. Turnout was about 58%. The election marked the first time U.S. staff at Amazon had decided to unionize in the company’s nearly 28-year history, a victory for organized labor that for years sought more worker protections at the country’s second-largest private employer. Overstreet did not specify which of Amazon’s 25 objections had potential to invalidate the election’s outcome. He said the parties can present testimony starting May 23, after which an NLRB hearing officer will recommend whether to uph…

Amazon to reimburse U.S. employees who travel for abortions, other treatments

The decision makes the online retailer the latest company after Citigroup Inc, Yelp Inc and others to respond to Republican-backed state laws curbing abortion access, helping employees bypass them. It shows how companies are eager to retain and attract talent in locations that remain important to their operations despite legal changes impacting employees’ health. The U.S. Supreme Court is due to rule by the end of June in a case that gives its conservative majority a chance to roll back abortion rights or even overturn the landmark 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling that legalized the procedure nationwide. About two dozen states including Oklahoma and Alabama have laws poised to limit abortion access should the Roe ruling be overturned.

Amazon’s new benefit, effective to Jan. 1 retroactively, applies if an operation is not available within 100 miles (161 km) of an employee’s home and virtual care is not possible, the company’s message said. It is open to U.S. employees or covered dependents enrolled in Premera or Aetna health plans, whether they work in a corporate office or a warehouse. The reimbursements that Amazon announced on Monday are not specific to abortion. They provide for o…
